Process of establishing a NABL testing lab in Chennai

NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) is an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, responsible for the accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories. Here are the general steps involved in the process of establishing a NABL testing labs in Chennai:

Determine Scope:

Infrastructure and Facility Setup: 

Establish a suitable facility with the necessary infrastructure, equipment, and space required for conducting the desired testing activities. Ensure compliance with relevant safety and environmental regulations.

Staffing and Expertise: 

Employ qualified and competent personnel with the appropriate technical expertise and knowledge in the relevant testing fields. This includes laboratory technicians, scientists, and quality managers who will be responsible for conducting the tests.

Quality Management System (QMS): 

Develop and implement a robust Quality Management System compliant with the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard. This includes creating standard operating procedures (SOPs), documenting processes, conducting internal audits, and establishing a quality manual.

Training and Competency: 

Provide training to laboratory personnel on relevant testing methods, quality control procedures, safety protocols, and documentation practices. Ensure that staff members are competent and qualified to perform their assigned tasks.

Submit an application to NABL for accreditation. NABL will then conduct an assessment visit to evaluate the laboratory's compliance with the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard and the NABL-specific criteria.

Accreditation and Surveillance: 

If the assessment is successful, NABL will grant accreditation to the laboratory. Regular surveillance audits will be conducted to ensure ongoing compliance and maintenance of accreditation.
