The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has set specific standards for testing hair dyes. The relevant standards for oxidation hair dyes in liquid, gel, and cream forms are covered under IS 8481:20051. This standard specifically covers hair dyes based on para-phenylenediamine (PPD)/ aryl amine. The BIS has also prescribed standards for other types of hair dyes.
